MULTAN:Three foreign accounts of former Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi in Multan were frozen on Monday as investigations into theHajj corruption scam continued.
The accounts are suspected to be holding money that was embezzled in the Hajj corruption scam.
The Saudi government also froze the bank account of the Pakistani Hajj mission in Jeddah which contains more than 50 riyals paid to companies by Hajj pilgrims.
Sources said that the account had been frozen due to lack of interest shown by officials of the Pakistaniconsulateand the Hajj mission.
The companies have decided to move the Supreme Court in the case as they claim they have still not received the amount due to them.
Last week, the Supreme Courtrejected the Federal Investigation Agencys (FIA) report regarding irregularities in Hajj arrangements, saying that it was not transparent and that influential people were involved in the scandal.
The corruption and irregularities in theHajj scam which had put an extra burden of Rs35,000 on each pilgrim this year and led to the sacking of former federal minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi and Azam Swati has sent ripple effects through the political landscape of the country ending up in the JUI-F quiting from the coalition.
