Shershah attack: Nine freed after confession

KARACHI:The Anti-terrorism Court in Karachi on Wednesday issued orders to release nine attackers who were alleged to be involved in the Shershah Market incident.

The accused men Akbar, Abdul Latif, Tufail, Asghar, Ejaz, Abid, Iqbal, Tehseen and Jauhar had surrendered before the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police at their office in Saddar on January 11.

According to sources, the accused were presented before the court where the petitioner failed to identify any of them as real culprits of the incident.

The administrative judge of the anti terrorism court issued orders to release the accused by giving them benefit of the doubt.

On October 19, attackers had killed 14 shopkeepers in Shershah market. There were 17 attackers nominated in the FIR, namely Baba Ladla, Nawab, Pervaiz, Shafi Magsi, Ejaz, Abid, Mullah Raju, Jawad, Iqbal, Akbar, Rasheed alias Waja, Imdad, Asghar, Tufail, his son Tahseen and others.
