ISLAMABAD:Defence Secretary Lt-Gen (retd) Syed Athar Ali on Friday said the intelligence agencies are cooperating with the Judicial Commission and the government due to which 96 cases of missing persons have been solved, while 36 remain pending.
The defence secretary told the court that he will represent the intelligence agencies. He said those behind the disappearances will also be brought to the court.
The Supreme Court (SC) was hearing the missing persons case today (Friday). Both defence and interior secretaries appeared in court in pursuance of the court order.
Jutice Javed Iqbal observed that the number of missing persons ison the riseand thatit is the governmentsresponsibility torecover those who have gone missing.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Human Rights Chairperson Amna Janjua expressed dissatisfaction over the way the authorities are dealing withmissing persons cases.
